Letter to the Editor
Buckeye Lake Beacon
About three years ago, two former Liberty Township trustees - Keith Taylor and Dave Keller - along with recently reelected trustee Ivan Ety approved the rezoning of a piece of property on Heimberger Road to B- 2 commercial. This was after the FairfieldCounty Regional Planning Commission recommended the rezoning would be inappropriate for the area and many neighbors voiced their opposition. The property is located in the middle of a rural residential area surrounded by nice homes.
It is my understanding the above three trustees are the same elected officials that approved and promoted expanding the Violet Township and Pickerington type of high density development into Liberty Township. It is also an understanding that these are the same three that approved and promoted the placement of an electric power plant within Liberty Township.

BALTIMORE - The Liberty Township Board of Zoning Appeals has a big decision ahead of it. April 1, BZA members heard convincing arguments on either side of a request to grant the Roshon Estates development--a proposed 100-acre subdivision located near the intersection of Stoudertown Road and Heimberger Lane-more time to begin construction. Following the hearing, BZA members unanimously exercised their right to table the issue and announce a decision during their April 15 meeting.
Some Liberty Township residents oppose the Roshon Estates Planned Unit Development because they believe the construction plan, which includes up to 200 houses, is too dense for its rural location. They say the construction plan should go through the township zoning and approval process all over again because, according to Liberty Township zoning, construction of a subdivision must begin within two years of its final approval. Residents say the plan was approved at its earliest in 2004 and at its latest Jan. 2006.

MILLERSPORT - A construction and demolition debris (C & DD) landfill could be developed on an approximately 66 acre site off Ohio 37 in Walnut Township.
The request to rezone the tract from I-1 to 1-2 is one of two rezoning requests before the Walnut Township Zoning Commission at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3. Currently, owner Jerry Mock operates a stone yard, recycling business and roll-off container business there.
All parties agree that the pending rezoning application was submitted at the request of Walnut Township. According to the Fairfield County Regional Planning Commission staff summary, Walnut Township believes the current activities must be conducted in an I-2 district, since they are not conducted within a building. The applicant doesn't concede that I-1 zoning is improper for its current activities.
The staff summary also states, "The applicant has indicated that it may want to bury demolition debris on site." At Tuesday night's regional planning commission meeting, Carrie Snoke, an attorney with Dagger Johnston representing Mock, said a feasibility study for a C & DD facility is being conducted at the site. A C & DD facility would also require a permit from Ohio EPA in addition to the proper township zoning.
