Anyone commuting to Columbus on U.S. 33 knows the daily routine is not pleasant.

It consists largely of stop-and-go driving in heavy traffic all the way to the Interstate 70 entrance. If that's not enough frustration, commuters have to repeat the routine on the way home.

BALTIMORE --A series of burglaries Sunday and Monday nights in Baltimore has authorities asking residents to keep an eye out for unusual activity.

"We've had five residential burglaries and one business broken into," Baltimore police chief Michael Tussey said. "It's pretty unusual for us to have a string of burglaries like this."

Local governments have been hit hard through the recession, and as a result have delayed construction projects, cut services and laid off public safety officials.

It's because of dwindling revenue sources. The state has cut aid. Tax collections are down, and voters aren't passing levies.

Now another funding source has become more difficult to come by: grants.

LANCASTER -- Property owners should use caution if they are approached to lease their land for oil and gas drilling, a local law firm warns.

"The first thing you should do is not sign," Dagger, Johnston, Miller, Ogilvie & Hampson LLP attorney Nicholas Grilli said Tuesday. "Then if you are presented with a lease, I would first contact an attorney who is versed in oil and gas law."

When many Pickerington and other Fairfield County residents checked their mailboxes this past week, there was a letter inside from the Fairfield County Auditor's office indicating their property taxes are coming due Feb. 23, 2012.

Some property owners did not receive their tax bill because their taxes are already paid as part of their monthly mortgage, but other property owners might be feeling the sticker shock of having to pay half of their semi-annual taxes in less than 30 days if they want to avoid paying a penalty.
