Tax credits for the Pearl House in Lancaster, a proposed 36-unit housing complex for recovering substance abusers, will be provided by the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, enabling the project to move forward.
During its meeting today, the agency said it considered arguments brought forth by the project's detractors, but ultimately decided the need for permanent housing for recovering drug addicts was too great to turn the project down.

LANCASTER -- The fight involving the Recovery Center and its proposed move into downtown Lancaster entered a new arena with supporters and detractors facing off Tuesday night at Lancaster's Board of Zoning Appeals.
Lancaster attorney Ronald Stoughton, speaking on behalf of City Councilman Randy Groff, R-3rd Ward, asked the board to overturn the permit issued by the city of Lancaster for renovation construction to begin.

It did not take long for the new village administrator to show what he will do for our community. If council does not do something that it does very rarely, and say "no," restaurants, car washes, service stations, maintenance facilities, nursing homes, schools, grocery stores and churches will be required to make some probable costly upgrades.

Central Ohio continues to grow.
Franklin County and surrounding communities in Licking, Fairfield, Knox and Delaware counties all saw population increases between 2010 and 2011, according to estimates released Wednesday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Officials in Fairfield and Licking counties say Columbus commuters are driving the growth, and the population hikes are a boon to the local economies.

ETNA -- Southwest Licking Board of Education members want to take the community's pulse as they embark on their search for a new superintendent of schools.
The school-district community is invited to attend a focus group session at 7 p.m. April 18 that is part of the process for selecting a new superintendent. It will take place in the Watkins Memorial High School auditorium.
