LANCASTER -- The Ohio Ethics Commission has dismissed a complaint Fairfield County Prosecutor Gregg Marx filed against county commission president Steve Davis regarding Davis' law firm doing work for the city.

Marx provided documents to the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette showing law director Terre Vandervoort used Davis' private law firm of Crabbe, Brown and James, LLP, for outside counsel from December 2010 to December 2011. Marx said the bill totaled $14,131 and blurs the line between Davis' public and private responsibilities.

Davis said the issue involves one case, Land Management versus the city, and that Laura Comek was the lead attorney.

"That's all public record," he said. "There was nothing hidden about it."

City documents show Davis as the billing attorney on each of the invoices, but he said he wasn't involved. Comek served as the city's attorney in the case at the time. Davis is the manager of his firm's local office.
