ThisWeek Community News By Nate Ellis Next month, Fairfield County voters will determine if the county's historical parks system will be maintained or dissolved. On Nov. 8, the Fairfield County Historical Parks Commission will take another stab at getting a levy passed to provide funding for its 18 parks. If approved, the 10-year, 0.4-mill levy on the ballot would generate $1.2 million in revenue for the parks annually, according to Dave Fey, Fairfield County Historical Parks director. It would cost homeowners in the county approximately $12.25 per $100,000 of home valuation each year, he said. "What we're asking for is your support, your help," Fey said. "This is our last try. "You don't have to give anything up. Take a little bit of your change and throw it in a box. It's not a ton of money, but think what we can do with it." The current levy is the 11th time the parks commission has sought funding through a tax measure after 10 consecutive levy defeats, including last year. However, the new levy represents a 20-percent reduction from the 0.5-mill levy the parks commission sought last year. It also is expected to be the parks commission's last chance at maintaining a county historical parks system after Fairfield County commissioner Steve Davis last spring announced he would call for his fellow commissioners to cut off county aid to the parks if the Nov. 8 levy fails.
